Hotel Artemis

So, I was really interested in this film mainly because if it brings Jodie Foster from Freaky Friday out of the wood work then it has to be seen. The writer of one of the MIs, one of the Marvels, and the next Sherlock Homles pic deserves to have his work seen on the big screen. It's an action movie that takes place in the future. It's more about the characters inside the hotel than the hotel itself. Each one will find redemption in one way or another. Sofia Boutella from The Mummy has a very cool action scene in a hallway that was my favorite in the movie. Dave Bautista from Guardians is funny. Jodie does a good job. An illegal hospital for members only disguised as a hotel where criminals can go if they get injured. One night at this hotel everyone breaks the rules and all hell breaks lose. All in all, I say; SEE IT

Annihilation

I never seem to learn my lesson with these alien science fiction movies that seek to be some sort of metaphor or warning to human kind. It's long and drawn out, and well....sort of preditable and boring. Natalie Portman from Black Swan tries, but I don't think anything or anyone could have made this better. Cool special effects and a good cast - it was just the plot I couldn't handle. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Dietland

I haven't read the book, so I don't know where any of this is going. The main character is not happy with her weight and not exactly happy with her job. I would also say miserable in her personal life as well. Until a couple of unusal people show themselves to her. That and a possible serial killer(s) on the loose makes for an intreguing plot. I can't wait to see what happens next. All in all, I say: SEE IT on AMC.

Reverie

A new tv show on NBC. It has potential, but if the writing and plot don't get a bit more complicated and interesting it's not going to be renewed. A former hostage negotitor lost her family in a shooting incident. After struggling for a while, a former friend and collegue has something he thinks will help her. People can use a device to get into a sort of VR state. Some aren't able to get out or don't want to, so she uses clues from their life to help them cope and get back to the real world. Reverie means a state of bring pleeasantly lost in one's thoughts like a daydream. Sarah Shahi from Fairly Legal has a hard time finding series that lasts - maybe this one will. Deniis Haysbert from Progressive commericals has found a job, and Kathryn Morris from Cold Case appears. All in all, I say: TRY IT

Safe

If you can get over the accent Michael Hall form Dexter uses, and the accent Audrey Fleurot from Spiral uses then you can get through this. A gated community sees all their secrets come to light when a girl goes missing. A stellar cast and all the twists and turns keep you interested. It was a decent mystery series on Netflix. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Solo: A Star Wars Story

I don't know why so many people have such strong feelings about this one. It takes places before 4,5,6 in the series. It's all about Han Solo in case you didn't know or couldn't tell. How does he get his name? How does he get in the smuggler game? How does he meet Chewy? All these questions and more are answered. It's well done. It's ok for kids like all the others. Alden Ehreneich from Stoker is Han. Donald Glover from Atlanta is Calrissian. All in all, I say: SEE IT

In Darkness

This had so much potential. It needed to be better written. A horrible man is being hunted and protected. But who is the hunter and who is the protector. Natalie Dormer (Sherlock) does an amazing job at being blind. But the treasure in this film is Ed Skrein - not only is he hot, but the martial arts! He only gets to use his skills two maybe three times and that's it. It really should have been more from his point of view with way more action. Ending is predictable. All in all, I say: SKIP IT
