Empire of the Sun

This came out in 1987 when I was about 13 years old. Christian Bale (born five days after me in January of 1974) was dreamy. I begged to see this movie a couple of times in theatres - I was so in love with Bale (The Dark Knight Rises). Malkovich (Burn After Reading) is a prisoner of war along with dozens of others including Bale who has become separated from his parents during World War II in Japan. Richardson (The Crying Game), Havers (Chariots of Fire), and Pantoliano (Memento) are in the camp as well. There are so many poetic and beautiful moments in this. The cinematography, the editing, and the screenplay are outstanding. Spielberg did an amazing job - even to watch it to this day. I love the live about the atomic bomb, "It was like God taking a photograph." All in all, I say: SEE IT - in fact I own it so come on over.
