Sizzling Sixteen

I am listening to the latest Plum novel. There is as always some car damage. Stephanie has some help getting into some weird situations in this one. There are stink bombs, alligators, hobbits, and cows. In New Jersey? Yes. This one is crazy. All in all, I say: CHECK IT OUT. Why hasn't anyone made movies or tv shows out of this series?

Fighter

I orginally gave this film one star on Netflix just by reading the plot. I changed my mind after seeing half the film on IFC or Sundance channel one weekend. It is like a Scandanvian, Bend it Like Beckham, film. Girl comes from strict family and has an unusal hobby for a girl. She is good at kickboxing - really good. She falls in love and he has to get use to her family's strict views on such things. She messes up her brother chance at a good marriage. She wants to participate in a tournament, but will her father disown her. It ends up the same way as Bend it Like Beckham, but it was grittier. I loved the filming of the fight scenes. All in all, I say: RENT IT.

Never Let Me Go

Drama based on a book - my butt! More like a horror film based on a sci-fi novel. Don't let the sleepy English countryside, the romantic violin music, and the soft shades of the clothing fool you. This movie is horror through and through. Clones are raised and upon reaching their early 20s are cut apart for their organs. The film never uses the word death - they use completion. I was disturbed and had nightmares. All in all, I say: RENT IT if you think cloning is a good idea. SKIP IT if you are against it and have no interest in knowing how we might use it in the future.

The Town

It's got some hard to watch shooting and crash scenes. Since Affleck directs he has a lot of close-ups. The accents were well done. Loved John Hamm in this. All in all, I say: RENT IT.

Easy A

Emma Stone does a great job. She makes this movie more than what it should have been - a flop. It is predictable and a little out of control. Her parents are played by some great actors I love. I laughed out loud several times - yes I was the only one. All in all, I say: WATCH IT when it comes on TV.

City Island

Yes, it is predictable. A family is lying to each other and things get crazy and they all end up spilling the beans. The good stuff - the actors. It was clever and fun. All in all, I say: RENT IT.

The Killer Inside Me

This movie was...umm...well...disturbing. Disturbing with a wierd ending and a great soundtrack. Casey did a great accent. All in all, I say: SKIP IT.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

Takes place several months after she says goodbye to the group of survivors heading to Alaska. Spoiler: it's a ship & not a city in Alaska. Surpirse: It's the umbrella corporation looking for people to experiment on. Heroes actress, Ali Larter is back and her brother, Wentworth Miller, is with her. We first see him in - you guessed - made me laugh - jail. Have to see it in 3D and have to see it if you have seen all the others. Stay at credits there is a hint for the next movie. All in all, I say: SEE IT & in 3D

The Spy Next Door

All the action of a Jackie Chan movie with a Disney sensibility. Good for older kids, a little boring for adults and older kids. All in all, I say: RENT IT if you have kids.

Jeff Fahey

Machete

It was too political and not enough revenge. The effects were ok. It wasn't cheesy enough for me though. I liked some of the actors, yet some weren't used to the best of their ability. All in all, I say: WATCH IT if it comes on TV.

The Switch

Bateman was his brillant self and Aniston wasn't too over the top. Yes, it was predictable but in movies like this it is the kid that makes or breaks it. So, all in all, I say: RENT IT the kid did a good job.

Kick-Ass

Well, one might think a movie about masked avengers would be entertaining, but watching an 11 year old year mutilate people was not what I had in mind. The previews made it look like it was for young teens, but I won't let anyone under the age of - say - 45 watch this. It was disturbing and not funny. All in all, I say: SKIP IT.

Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang

She does it again, and it is just as wonderful. There are three surprise cameos in this one - and all of them work. It is clever and perfect for children. There is only one long part where the kids might yawn, but it doesn't last long. Adults will get weepy. All in all, I say: RENT IT.

Going the Distance

The writing and delivery of the lines made this movie more than just a romantic comedy. It was unexpected yet predictable. I loved it. Maybe it was my mood - there were some vulgar jokes, but it worked somehow. All in all, I say: SEE IT. I just LOVE Justin Long.

Harry Brown

It was slow and took a long time to get to the revenge. There was a twist at the end I would have seen coming if I had paid attention to some of the actors in the movie. I liked the cops. The ending was scary. All in all, I say: RENT IT.

Dali

Dali at the High was awesome. There were photos, pictures, films, and more. He was amazing and alive in the 80s - how crazy is that. I want to go to the Dali Museum in Florida now. So cool - All in all, I say: SEE IT.
