Before I Fall

Zoey Deutch (Why Him?) is living the day of her death over and over again. She's doing it to help someone - to make something right. She finally realizes she has to spread her wise words around and sacrifice herself for someone before she can go to Heaven or whatever. It had potential - it wasn't bad, but it could have been so much better. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Celebrity Family Feud

Same as Family Feud only with stars who are raising money for charity. It's funny and more crude humor. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Bordertown (aka Sorjonen)

A cop who uses an innovative memory technique to catch bad guys is ready to move to a small town away from the disturbing crime of the capital after his wife recovers from a brain tumor and he solves a child's murder. The small town is on the border between Finland and Russia, so you know what's coming. Sex trafficking, drugs, dog fights, and crime galore - it's a border town - even I know it doesn't matter where in the world - border towns are filled with crime. His family gets pulled into some of the crimes too because it's a small town. The plots are interesting and realistic. All the actors do a good job. All in all, I say: SEE IT on Netflix.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

This is a pilot for a potential new series on Amazon Prime. She is a smart and very witty woman. She finds a husband, has kids, movies into a great apartment near her parents. She supports her husbands dreams and career - keeps house and looks fabulous for him - it's the 40s or 50s. After he dumps her for his secretary she gets drunk and has a great set at a comedy club. I can't wait for the series to start. Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) did a great job. Tony Shalhoub (Monk) plays her father in the pilot. Alex Borstein (MadTV) also stars. All in all, I say: SEE IT

GirlBoss

A Netflix series starring Britt Robinson (The Space Between Us) is a young woman on her own in San Francisco, CA. Her character is just too eccentric to be believable. It's trying to hard to be unique. I wasn't interested. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Book of Henry

Naomi Watts (The Glass Castle) is a single mother of two who is a waitress - she's also kind of a free will - she not very strict - kind of person. Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special and Masters of Sex) is her eldest son Henry who is a genius. He has managed to make some great investments, so they have a house and over 160,000 in the bank. He has been trying to get his neighbor a policeman (Dean Norris from GirlBoss) arrested for abusing his step daughter for awhile when he has a medical emergency. Now it's up to his mom and brother (Jacob Tremblay from Room) to figure out how to get the bad guy. Sarah Silverman (Masters of Sex) is mom's best friend. Lee Pace (The Fall) is a doctor. All in all, I say: SEE IT

The Perfect Bride

A marriage counselor is left at the alter, so she decides to try something else to get women and men ready for marriage. She runs a fitness boot camp for women who are about to be married. She meets a photography and likes him, but he's engaged. It's Hallmark so you can guess. The two of them realize they should be together. This was a cheesy plot, but the acting was really, really good. Kavan Smith (Eureka) does such a good job. All in all, I say: SEE IT

The Handmaid's Tale

I never read the book. The first movie was out in 1990 and it freaked me out. Natasha Richardson (Nell) is basically raped because in this freakish cult so few women can have babies. She's fertile in this future bizarro world. She has to live with a wealthy, powerful family in hopes of giving them a child. It is a very religious society and no one is to be trusted. She is trying to survive and escape. Faye Dunaway (The Bye Bye Man) is the woman of the house. Aidan Quinn (Elementary) is the chauffeur who falls in love with her. Robert Duvall (Open Range) is the Commander - man of the house. All in all, I say: SKIP IT because there is a newly improved version on Hulu.
It's going to be more than one season, so it's going to be different than the book I believe. Elizabeth Moss (West Wing) is the poor woman who has been separated from her husband and child in a section of the US that is now under the new rule of this strict religious nation that gained control through terrorism and the apathy of citizens. She wants to escape but can't really trust anyone. Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) is the woman of the house. Max Minghella (The Mindy Project) is the chauffeur. Joseph Fiennes (Risen) is the commander. All in all, I say: SEE IT - it's been updated and comes across extremely realistic in this day in age.

Megan Leavey

Kate Mara (Morgan) stars in this based on a true story movie. Common (Hell on Wheels) is her commanding officer and Bradley Whitford (West Wing) is her dad. Mara usually annoys me - she is not my favorite Mara. I focused on the dogs in this film. It made me cry a lot. I wanted to hug all the puppies!!! All in all, I say: SEE IT

The Mummy

Part of a series of films from long ago from Dark Universe. I don't know if they are going to make the other movies in the series or not. This wasn't bad. Tom Cruise (MI) is cursed by a mummy who wants to bring evil into the world. There is lots of action. Russell Crowe (Gladiator) plays Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Santa Clarita Diet

Drew Barrymore (Charlie's Angels) and Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) are husband and wife realtors. Somehow she is infected with a zombie virus and together they must find a way to keep her fed. It is a comedy. There are some scenes in a Rite-Aid that are quite funny. The two of them together are fantastic. The neighbors, their daughter...just everyone does such an amazing job. It was so funny. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Frontier

A Canadian TV show about the Hudson Bay Company. After one show - I was done. It's just a bunch of back stabbing and bad acting. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Queen of Katwe

A Disney movie I somehow missed. A girl in Uganda helps her family by playing chess. It's sad, its hopeful, and it was amazing. The acting, directed, and editing were spot on. They filmed it on location which made it more amazing for a true story. What a difference a teacher can make. All in all, I say: SEE IT

A Series of Unfortunate Events

A Netflix original. I put off watching it because there was so much hype I didn't want to be disappointed. It was amazing!! Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) is a phenomenal actor. He plays Count Olaf. Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement)  plays Lemony Snicket. They do each book in 2 episodes and season one is the first four books - they are doing the other books. I hope they do all 13. The scenery, costumes, acting, and directing are great. All in all, I say: SEE IT - read the books first though.

Anne with an E

A Canadian Netflix production. It is based on the novels, but doesn't follow them exactly. I really, really liked it. I thought it would bother me all the twists and turns that weren't in the book - but no. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Christmas Eve

Larry King gets his friends to help him make a movie so his wife can act in it. I guess he thought it would turn out like Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, but it was so boring. Acting was bad, dialogue was bad, directing was bad, editing was bad - uggg. A bunch of people get stuck in an elevator. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Cable Girls

A Netflix original - it seemed like it would be interesting, but they dubbed. Horrible idea - All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Flashback Games

For about $15 a kid can play any console or arcade games for as long as they want. Also, they get two snacks and two drinks. I took my nephew and he loved it. They have all kinds of games including classics like PacMan and Tekken. All in all, I say: TRY IT if you have kids who like video games.

Small Crimes

A Netflix original that frankly was super boring. A former cop gets out of jail and right off the bat there is arguing and yelling with parents, with former partner, and so on. The audience only finds out bits and pieces about the past and it just gets annoying having to try to figure things out. It's like we join in the middle of a movie and since we aren't invested in the characters we don't care how it ends. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Travelers

Brad Wright (SG-1) created this kind of time traveling story. Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) stars and is a producer. Teams from the future go back in time to try to fix things - which continue to be a disaster. It is well written, acted, and filmed. It's a who's who of Canadian actors. All in all, I say: STREAM IT on Netflix.

Wonder Woman

We first see her in Batman v Superman, and we will see her again in Justice League. This is a prequel or Wonder Woman origin story. Gal Gadot (Criminal) is Wonder Woman. The updated music from the original show is amazing. Most of the scenes are badass - warning - there is a lot of CGI in this and it's noticeable. Chris Pine (A Wrinkle in Time), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Connie Nielsen (Justice League), Danny Huston (Paranoid), and David Thewlis (Fargo) also star. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Genius

I started it, but I don't care for Thomas Wolfe and Jude Law annoyed me. IMDb writes, "A chronicle of Max Perkins's time as the book editor at Scribner, where he oversaw works by Thomas WolfeErnest HemingwayF. Scott Fitzgerald and others.". All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Destination Wedding

A Hallmark movie that takes place at the beach. IMDb writes, "Ellie Hamilton has been painstakingly planning her sister's destination wedding for the longest time. As guests arrive on a beach paradise, Ellie runs into her ex-boyfriend, Greg, who also happens to be the best man. When the bride and groom don't show up, Ellie and Greg must lie to the guests and assure everything is okay. With the wedding a couple days away, and Ellie unsure if her sister will show up, she and Greg must save the wedding while simultaneously falling for each other.
- Written by Hallmark". All in all, I say: SEE IT

Within

A horror movie, but still disturbing. A man is killing people that move into his childhood home - he lives in the walls and attic. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Snow Angels

Disturbing and really kind of pointless feeling. I was bored and it was disturbing. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Reformed Vampire Support Group

An Australian novelist look at vampires from the point of view of someone that appears to be a teen, but really isn't. Amazon writes, "Think vampires are romantic, sexy, and powerful? Think again. Vampires are dead. And unless they want to end up staked, they have to give up fanging people, admit their addiction, join a support group, and reform themselves.
Nina Harrison, fanged at fifteen and still living with her mother, hates the Reformed Vampire Support Group meetings every Tuesday night. Even if she does appreciate Dave, who was in a punk band when he was alive, nothing exciting ever happens. That is, until one of group members is mysteriously destroyed by a silver bullet. With Nina (determined to prove that vamps aren't useless or weak) and Dave (secretly in love with Nina) at the helm, the misfit vampires soon band together to track down the hunter, save a werewolf, and keep the world safe from the likes of themselves.
The perfect anecdote to slick vampire novels, this murder-mystery comedy of errors will thrill fans of Evil Genius.". All in all, I say; SKIP IT - I was bored after a couple of chapters.

Alien: Covenant

Plot wise this is the 2nd film in the Aliens series - even though it came out this year - 2017. Michael Fassbender (The Snowman) reprises his role. Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts), Billy Crudup (The Flash), Danny McBride (Vice Principals), Demian Bichir (Inglorious Bastards), and a couple of interesting cameos. It makes a lot more sense than Prometheus and less sense than Alien, but it explains and ties up a whole lot of lose ends. All in all, I say: SEE IT

All for Love

A Hallmark movie with Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect) and Steve Bacic (Garage Sale Mysteries). They have chemistry and they both are natural. Despite the screenplay - they do a good job. IMDb writes, "When a romance novelist is teamed with a Navy SEAL as research for her book, by a mandate from her publisher, she is less than thrilled and he is more than honest. However, as she works with the SEAL, she has a change of heart and learns to look at her life and writing with a different point of view. Stars Sara Rue, Steve Bacic and Teryl Rothery."All in all, I say: SEE IT

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

Ahhh - well...  it's just more of the 1st. All in all, I say: SKIP IT
