Kodachrome

Ed Harris (Westworld) is a famous photographer is dying and wants to make amends with his estranged son Jason Sudeikis (Permission). His nurse is played by Elizabeth Olsen (Wind River). It’s nothing great, but it wasn’t horrible. The writing could been better. Harris does the best job. It’s on Netflix. all in all, I say: Skip it

Royal Matchmaker

Typical Hallmark romance movie. A woman who helps people find love helps a Prince and they end up falling in love. You’ve seen one Hallmark you’ve seen them all. All in all, I say: See it because the acting and editing were good. Love happy endings.

Flint Town

A documentary on Netflix about the 100 officers on the Flint, Michigan police force that serves over 100,000 people in a city with no clean water and in the top 5 places wi5 highest murder rate. It addresses all sorts of issues and it was touching. All in all, I say: See it and I don’t say that about a lot of reality shows.

I Feel Pretty

It made me feel like a reverse Shallow Hal. Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) is a self conscious woman with low self esteem who hits her head and awakens thinking she is a gorgeous, skinny woman. Her confidence rises and she gets what she wants. Or does she? It’s about self esteem in women. It was funny and Michelle Williams (Greatest Showman) does an amazing job as Amy’s boss at a cosemteics company. Tom Hopper (Black Sails) makes an appearance too. All in all, I say: See it

I Am Evidence

Marisa Hargitay (SVU) stars in this documentary about the testing or rather lack of testing of rape kits throughout the US. It is tragic, sad, and infuriating. It’s on HBO and it’s a must see. All in all, I say: See it

The Crossing

Steve Zahn (Sahara) is a local sheriff helping an oxidized human called an Apex played by Natalie Martinez (APB) find her adopted human daughter. Dozens of people from the future have travelled back in time for a better life but the government is preventing them access to anything or anyone. It has it moments and other times it just seem predictable. All in all, I say, Skip it - I have a feeling things are going to get more and more complicated instead of coming to a conclusion.

Lost in Space

The original show 65-68 was about a spy who stows away on a ship and causes it to fly off course. The robot was the coolest part of the show. The remake on Netflix is amazing! It’s goes so much deeper than the original. The science and the effects are so great. Penny and the robot are my 2 favorites characters. Toby Stephens (Black Sails) and Molly Parker (Deadwood) are the parents. It’s is a multi-ethnic show which I love. West comes in later instead of already being on board. He second best change other than the robot is Dr.Smith - it’s Parker Posey (Best in Show)with an agenda. I can’t wait for season 2. All in all, I say: See it

The Titan

Sam Worthington (Avatar) allows his entire body to be altered so that he can survive on Titan and be the first of many to settle there in hopes of all Earthlings being able to move there one day. O the length of the entire movie I was thinking, so what? Who cares? What is the point of this? All in all, I say: Skip it on Netflix

A Quiet Place

John Krasinski (Office) wrote, directed and acted in this modern day horror. Make a noise and alien creatures will find and kill you - not the plot. The real plot, a family trying to overcome the grief of losing one of their own, and trying to do more than just survive. How do we show love to others? What is more important than one life? The actors that play the children do a phenomenal job? The entire cast does sign language for most. This was so well though out in its direction and editing. All in all, I say: See it

The Snowman

I’m sure the book was 1,000 times better. This was edited poorly, key plot points were missing, and there was little to keep the watchers attention. It had potential to be very scary, but falls short. Not even Michael Fassbender (XMen) could save this. all in all, I say: Skip it

Alex Inc.

Zach Bragg (Scrubs) has a half hour comedy show where he quits his job to start up his own podcast. His son and daughter help keep this afloat along with Michael Imperioli (Sopranos) who plays his cousin. It’s quick witted and not too bad. Not sure how they will keep this going though. All in all, I say: See it

All At Once

An artist gives up everything to raise his best friends kids when they are killed on 9/11. It’s like all other stories with the same plot. The only thing that adds to it andharacters we eat when the family moves to Buffalo. The uncle and the youngest daughter add o eddy by their obsession with a certain action actor. It’s not bad for a first time director. All in all, I say: See it

The Frankenstein Chronicles

He lives! He’s kind of Franenstein’s monster. He is actually a former military man turned detective and he’s trying to solve the murders of poor children. It’s a period piece and it’s full of action. It’s dark and wet and filthy as in mud. You really feel like you’re there in 19th century London. He acting is stupendous and it’s not very predictable. all in all, I say: See it

Absentia

Stana Katic (Castle) is a producer and acts as an FBI agent that is kidnapped and presumed dead. After six years, she resurfaces along with deaths due to the MO of the serial killer believed to have kidnapped and killed her. Problem is that he’s in prison. It’s a long and drawn out series. The ending isn’t believable, and I felt frustrated with all the conspiracies that just seemed to out of this world to be believable. All in all, I say: Skip it

Requim

A supernatural mini-series. Several people have disappeared and or committed such ice leading a city musician to question her identity and everything she knows about good and evil. It had me - even though it’s supernatural- until the last episode. All in all, I say: Skip it

Retribution

Two Scottish families are ruined when their kids - who recently arrived back from their honeymoon - are murdered. The murderer falls into their laps one stormy night, and what happens that night destroys all of them. The dirty cop investigates and she turns up more secrets than it seems humanly possible for one family to have. It just shows how things aren’t always black and white when it comes to whether things are right or morally wrong. I wasn’t able to guess why they were killed so well done to BBC. It’s well acted by some stellar Scottish and English actors. All in all, I say: Stream It

Ready Player One

Based on the book but very loosely so. I know it had to be shortened to make the big screen, but this thing was butchered. Everything about it was wrong. If I hadn’t read the book I think I would have loved it - the acting, the graphics, and the plot. All in all, I say : only See it if you haven’t read the book.

Everything Sucks

A trip back to the 90s o high school. A sophomore discovers she’s gay and her dad finds love again years after his wife passed. A freshman finds a love not meant to be, makes a movie, and finds out more about his true self. His single mom finds love again as well. It’s funny and painful all at the same time. All in all, I say: See it

Benji

The remake is very, very sad. I cried about four or five times. A stray dog finds his way into a home that needs him. A widowed woman and her 2 kids. The kids are kidnapped and it’s Benji to the rescue. Miele Sanchez from The Purge is the mother.
The original Benji - same plot as above which came out in 1974 was adorable and a classic. All in all, I say: See them both.

Splitting Up Together

Jenna Fisher (The Office) and Oliver Hudson (Scream Queen) are getting divorced but still living together. They take turns staying in the garage or in the house to take care of the kids. It’s a half hour comedy - each of them is learning more about the other. All in all, I say: See it

Vertigo

Hitchcock directs Jimmy Stewart (The Big Sleep) as a man who falls for a woman he thinks commits succeed. Turns out there is a plot. Kim Novak from Picnic stays as the woman he falls for. It was never one of my favorites and it’s pretty easy to see it’s a husband kills wife thing. All in all, I say: Skip it

Instinct

An FBI agent who lost her fiancé finds a worthy partner in an ex CIA agent who is now a professor played by Alan Cumming (The Good Wife). The solve crimes using his very special skills as a psychiatrist. The plot is okay - the acting is ok - so far I like the different characters. All in all, I say: See it

The Space Between Us

A group of astronauts go to Mars, but one turns out to be pregnant. The baby can not survive Earth, so he is looked after by another astronaut that has spent many years on Mars doing scientific experiments - Carla Gugino (Sin City). When the boy gets much older he (Asa Butterfield from Hugo) decided to come to Earth despite the risks to look for his father and his true love (Britt Robertson from Tomorrowland). All in all. I say: See it

I, Tonya

Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) stars as tonya Harding in this docudrama based on what happened during the scandal. Sebastian Stan (Captain America) and Allison Janney(West Wing) also star. It’s really well priced together to look like a documentary, but it’s very comical. the acting is excellent. All in all, I say: See it

The Florida Project

It’s an independent film that feels like a documentary. This is the summer of a young girl who lives with her mother in a motel by Orlando, Florida. Because of her various acts to find money the woman is in danger of losing her daughter. Willem Defoe stars as the motel manager. All in all, I say: See it

The Shape of Water

A Guillermo Del Toro film about a deaf lonely woman finding love with an Amazon creature. It takes place during WWII. It’s disturbing like all his films. It still has all the ingredients of an old timey creature feature. Sally Hawkins (Maudie) and Michael Shannon (Waco) star. It’s mostly about how a group of misfits try to find freedom. All in all, I say: Skip it

Ferdinand

Based on the children’s book about a bull who would rather smell flowers than fight in a bull ring. It has a happy ending as opposed to the bull fights that currently take place. It’s not bad as far as an animated kids movie goes. All in all, I say: Rent it if you have a kid.

Flatliners

The original film in 1990 had a great group: Keifer Sutherland (24), Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman), Kevin Bacon (Footloose), and William Baldwin (Backdraft). A group of medical students stop each other’s hearts to learn about the afterlife. Instead they end up bring past tragedies to the surface which could kill them.

Ellen Page(Juno), Diego Luna(Rogue One), Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), and James Norton (McMafia) star in the reboot. It’s got a modern update, but the idea is the same. All in all, I say: Rent the old one and Skip the other.

Champions

It’s a half hour comedy show by Mindy Kaling. It has some funny parts but as a whole I didn’t find it very funny. The actor that plays her son is quite good. Her son is going to a private school in NYC and is left to live with his estranged father. The boys father owns a gym with his brother and a group of misfits. All in all, I say: Skip it.
