The Awakening

Hall (The Town) is looking for something - she spends her time proving that the supernatural is NOT real. She is about to be awakened. West (300) is a teacher at a boarding school who asks for her help with a haunting at the school. Staunton (Vera Drake) is the woman of the house; she has a motive - it might be deadly. Mawle (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is not what he appears to be - in fact - no many at the school are. It's not really horror - it is a little irritating because you just want to know what's really going on. The fear is not what you think. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Cut Bank

Hemsworth (Independence Day 2) has a plan to make some money to escape a very small town in Montana. Palmer (Kill Me Three Times) is his clueless girlfriend. Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) is the local Sheriff - who isn't as dumb as he seems. Thornton (Sling Blade) is the father of his girl friend - he's a big player in town. Platt (West Wing) is a Washington DC inspector sent to the small town to investigate a murder. The murder of a not so dead postal worker played by Dern (Nebraska). The plan does not go to planned when it lures out a local serial killer. It is clever and really well written, acted, and directed. It's quite clever. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Kill Me Three Times

Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) is a professional hitman. Brown (Cocktail) is a dirty cop who collects gambling debts for a cousin. Mulvey (300) owns a bar in a small beach town, and because he beats his wife he's going through a divorce. He decides to hire a hitman to kill his wife (Braga from I Am Legend) because she cheating on him. Stapleton (300) is a dentist with massive gambling debts and a wife (Palmer from Cut Bank) with a plan. Hemsworth (The Rekoning) is her lover and really the only decent guy in this town. You can't trust anyone in that place. All in all, I say: SEE IT - it was well done.

Monkey Kingdom

2015 Earth Day movie by Disney to raise money to protect nature and wildlife in Southeast Asia. It is narrated by Tina Fey. A newborn monkey is given a fighting chance because of his mother's wits and his father's boldness. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Slow West

Australian Smit-McPhee (The Road) is a wealthy Scot who falls for a fisherman's daughter. His uncle gets into it with the girl's father (McCann from Game of Thrones). The uncle is killed, so the man and his daughter flee to the American West. There is a bounty on them which draws out several unsavory characters like Mendelsohn (Exodus) and Fassbender (Assassin's Creed). It's tragic, but poetic. It had a great screenplay and the cinematography was well done. All in all, I say: SEE IT. I saw it on DirecTv on Demand.

A Love for Keeps

A Truly Yours romance. It was a .99 cent novel on Kindle that I read in an hour. Amazon describes it as: "Will Nate be coerced into marriage? Nate Brooks feels indebted to Abigail Connors for saving his daughter from the fire that killed his wife. Abigail wishes Nate would repay her with wedding vows. After all, she loved Nate long before he married her little sister. But Nate feels no love for Abigail, only gratitude. When Meagan Snow enters Nate’s office for a bank loan, he immediately feels drawn to her. Meagan hopes to support her widowed mother and sisters by opening a dressmaking shop. Nate knows if the dresses are half as beautiful as their maker, Meagan’s business is bound to be successful. As their acquaintance turns into something more, can Meagan and Nate withstand the jealous schemes of Abigail Connors? Will they let her tear them apart or find a love for keeps?" All in all, I say: READ IT if you like a quick easy read.

Daredevil (tv series)

Cox (Stardust) is the hero by night and lawyer by day that was blinded in a chemical spill when he was young. His other senses are extremely heightened. D'Onofrio (Law & Order: CI) is the bad guy who believes he's a good guy. It's a pretty decent take on the movie and comic. I watched it all in one go thanks to Netflix streaming. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief

A journalist did a piece on the religion, several famous people left the "church", and the top three leaders also left - this all lead to a fabulous documentary on HBO about Scientology. The film uses interviews and research of public documents to support the findings that the "church" is corrupt and a full on cult. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

A young middle school ages girl was kidnapped and put in a bunker for 15 years. She and three other women are released to find the world wasn't destroyed. Now they have to find their way in the real world. There are some are funny parts, but a lot of it just seems like the writers were trying to hard to be funny. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Night Will Fall

An HBO documentary about a unfinished WWII documentary using all the footage from American and British cameramen who followed troops throughout the war. The film was to be an eye opening experience for Germans and the rest of the world - to show what really happened to the Jews during the Holocaust. It is horrifying - it's everything you read about and heard about - only you see it. You will have nightmares, cry, and feel sick to your stomach, but it's important to know what evil man is capable of. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Home

An alien race arrives on Earth. A young girl is separated from her mother. An outcast among his own; Oh, helps her find her mother. Will a big mistake by Oh bring a new alien race to destroy Earth in the meantime? All in all, I say: SEE IT

Insurgent

Stevenson (Rome) is added as Four's father. Watts (Eastern Promises) is added as Four's mother. McTeer (Battle Creek) makes an appearance as a former leader - can't give away of what from when. There are some differences from the book - characters, plot, and entire scenes gone. All in all, I say: SEE IT if you saw the first movie and haven't read the book. SKIP IT if you didn't like the books or the first movie.
