The Homesman

Written, directed, and starring Jones (The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada). It is just as wierd as the last movie he directed. IMDb writes, "Three women who have been driven mad by pioneer life are to be transported across the country by covered wagon by the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy, who in turn employs low-life drifter George Briggs to assist her." Everything is going along just fine when near the end Cuddy (Swank from Million Dollar Baby) loses it - something happens that I don't agree with - I just don't think it was in her character. It sort of just ends and it's frustrating. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Just The Way You Are

  • A successful matchmaker has suddenly lost the spark in her own marriage after 15 years, so Jennie insists her husband, Ian, to go on a blind date-with her. By rediscovering each other as "newly-mets," they get a second chance to fall in love for the first time all over again.
    Written by The Hallmark Channel
  • Bure (Full House) and Olsson (X-Men 2) star. It's not bad - one of the better Hallmark movies.
  • All in all, I say: SEE IT

A Novel Romance

IMDb writes, "A best-selling romance novelist moves to Portland to cure his writer's block and unknowingly falls in love with his biggest critic. When their true identities are revealed, they have to find the courage and take a leap of faith." Acker (Dollhouse) and Bruce (Orphan Black) star. It's cute - predictable. Hallmark movie! All in all, I say: SEE IT

Pitch Perfect 2

IMDb wrote, "After a humiliating command performance at Lincoln Center, the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform." It's the same cast. The dialogue was quick and funny. It was just as good as the first. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Avengers: Age of Ultron

New Avengers are added. Some old Avengers may be taking there own path. All Avengers are having to soul search. This battle for Earth is a tough one in many ways - tougher even than the last battle in New York. A piece of the interwoven Marvel tale is added - the plot behind the stones is pushed further forward. The action scene at the beginning isn't the best CGI I've seen. There is action, but more special effect action than hand to hand action - but they are battling robots. There is a lot of deep talk - the script still has the signature funny. All in all, I say: SEE IT - I mean you have to if you've seen the other Marvels and you don't want to miss any important plot points before the next Marvel movie is released.

Catch and Release

Garner (Dare Devil), Olyphant (Deadwood), Smith (Clerks), Lewis (Natural Born Killers), and Jaegar (Behind Enemy Lones) all star. A group of friends work out their lives after one of their best friends dies. Secrets come out and love is found. It has some funny lines. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Lip Sync Battle

Two famous people lip sync to music and the audience decides who the winner is. It started in the home of Krasinski (The Office) and Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) with their friend Merchant (writer for The Office). They performed it on Jimmy Fallon's show. Some episodes are cool and some are "whoc ares". All in all, I say: SEE IT - at least the ones with actors you like.

Messengers

Angels on Earth are tasked with stopping the Four Horseman from breaking the seven seals that will lead to the end of days. SO far, it's somewhat interesting. There are visions to be interpreted. The angels each have their own baggage, and their own powers. I think it will get old quick. If it goes for more than one season it really will get old. All in all, I say: TRY IT

Failure to Launch

McConaughy (True Detective), Parker (Sex in the City), Deschanel (New Girl), and Cooper & Bartha (Hangover) all star. She is paid by his parents (Bates from Misery and Bradshaw from football) to date him. so he will move out of the house. They fall in love. There are so exaggerated scenes - some of it is cute. There is a happy ending. All in all, I say: SEE IT. Nice sailboats in this.

Need for Speed

IMDb writes, "Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.." The acting is not great, the plot is not great, the car crashes are not great. so basically... All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Mindhunters

This was a super cool movie when it came out. A group of FBI who want to be profilers for the FBI get sent to an island for a training exercise. Only problem - one of them really is a serial killer. Kilmer and Slater are back together (True Romance). LL Cool J (Lip Sync Battle), Collins Jr. (The Event), Kemp (Step Up 2), Miller (Elementary), Morris (Cold Case), Velasquez (Mummy), and Bailey (Stalker) all star. I wasn't able to guess who the killer was. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Perfect on Paper

IMDb writes, "A young woman moves to Los Angeles with the task of helping a famous author edit her upcoming romance novel. While dealing with the diva's many demands, she meets two men and realizes the best one for her might not necessarily be the one who looks best "on paper."
Fuller (Army Wives) stars as one of the men. It's a Hallmark, so happy ending.
All in all, I say: SEE IT

In My Dreams

IMDb writes, "Natalie and Nick are frustrated with their luck in romance. After tossing coins into a fountain, the two then begin dreaming about each other. But, according to fountain mythology, they only have a week to turn those dreams into reality."
I love happy endings. All in all, I say: SEE IT - Hallmark baby!

My Boyfriend's Dogs

Hallmark movie - love the happy endings. A young woman ends up in a diner on a rainy night with three dogs. The owners ask her story. A tale of three different boys unfolds. It turns out the man she is meant for is the man that owns the pet store. All in all, I say: SEE IT

My Cousin Vinny

Filmed in GA in 1992 this funny movie about a fish out of water starred Pesci (Lethal Weapon 4), Tomei (Parental Guidance), Macchio (Karate Kid), and Gwynne (Munsters).
Two young boys from Brooklyn end up being accused of murder in a smaller town in Alabama. They seek the help of an uncle who just became a lawyer. He manages to do a good job despite getting no sleep. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Mercury Rising

Willis (Die Hard) is an FBI agent that has been written off by most. He is sent to a murder scene to get clues in finding a lost possibly kidnapped kid who has autism (Hughes from Apollo 13). The kid figured out an NSA code and the man in charge of the code Baldwin (Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation) has his parents killed and attempts to have the kid done in too.  I thought it was pretty good for the 80s. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Perfect Stranger

2007 thriller starring Berry (X-Men) and Willis (GI Joe). Ribisi (Cold Mountain) also stars. IMDb writes, "A journalist goes undercover to ferret out businessman Harrison Hill as her childhood friend's killer. Posing as one of his temps, she enters into a game of online cat-and-mouse." It was a little annoying and kind of predictable, but it has been showing on Showtime or STARZ. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Transporter (tv series)

Based on the movie series. Frank starts in France, then US, and then Canada. In real life it all takes places in Canada. British actor Vance (Prison Break) plays Frank and does all his stunts. The cool part - they kept all the martial arts stuff - the type where you use what you have around you to fight. It's super cool. The driving scenes are ok - there are too many crashes - I don't like that. It's a series so there is a different woman in every show for him to have sex with. I have only seen the first three episodes of Season One - and it's a 4 shirter. All in all, I say: YES BABY! Here's the bummer - no pictures with him without his shirt.

Quartet

A home for artist who are going senile must raise money to continue to operate by putting on a concert once a year. This year they have four of the best opera singers England has ever know. The problems - they might forget the words or they will continue to fight and refuse to perform. It's not bad - it's a little slow. All in all, I say: SKIP IT unless your doing an old age movie marathon and need something to watch after Cocoon.

Adult Beginners

A man who loses a lot of his money and the money of others finds his way back to his family home where his sister is going through a bit of a crisis. She's pregnant, has a young son, works at school with a difficult boss, and her husband is being unfaithful. The two help each other through the difficult times with a great amount of sense of humor. Byrne (Bridesmaids) is the sister. It has some great lines. All in all, I say: SEE IT

The World Made Straight

A curious small budget film about a small Appalachian town. A former professor makes a living selling weed, and comes to help a high school drop out find his path in life. Things go wrong as will happen in a tight knit community especially when drugs and kin are involved. Wyle (Falling Skies) stars as the professor who got out, but circumstances force him back to his roots. All in all, I say: RENT IT

Bound

A woman that feels like she hasn't any power finds her inner power with the help of a younger man who wishes to possess her and make her a submissive. She catches on. It was choppy and not well written. It had potential except he couldn't act. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Free Ride

Based on the true story of a woman's experience with her single mom and sister in the 70s. Her mom became involved with a secretive and wealthy drug dealer. She made a lot of money. Paquin (The Piano) plays the mother. It is low budget. It's not bad. All in all, I say: RENT IT

Residue

Tena and Rheon (both from Game of Thrones) are a couple in love and in the middle of a large government conspiracy with a bit of a science fiction twist. All in all, I say: SKIP IT. At first I thought how unique and intriguing, but when it was all said and done I was like, That's it?!
