Released in 1996 this TV docudrama starred Hutton (Leverage) as a white man in Virginia that fell in love and married a long time friend played by Rochon. Here's the catch - segregation and Civil Rights Movement in full swing. In Virginia it was against the law to marry someone of another race. Mrs. Loving was part black part Native American. The movie focuses mainly on their love and their arrest. All in all, I say: SKIP IT not like you have a choice I don't think it's available anywhere to see. Why skip? The documentary below is better.
Released in 2011 after several major players have died. It uses photographs, tv interviews, interviews past & present with the lawyers, relatives, and the Lovings themselves. There is also actual audio from the Supreme Court. Loving v Virginia went to the Supreme Court and thanks to Warren and the other Justices - interracial couples were legally allowed to marry after this case. They had three children. You may think, what's the big deal just leave Virginia. But it was their home - all their friends and family lived there and city life was no place during that time to raise kids. Richard loved his wife more than anything and wanted her happy and being home made her happy. The were arrested twice and two civil rights lawyers new to the profession took their case all the way to the Supreme Court. They are both shy, so sometimes I squirmed when they were being interviewed because I knew they weren't enjoying it too much. All in all, I say: SEE IT it is an important part of the civil rights movement and our history.
