Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Ok, I admit it - I don't think I have ever read the book.
Amazon describes the plot as, "But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!" All in all, I say: READ IT - Dahl is amazing!

This - this is even more amazing than the book. Everything comes to life in this. The scenery is...wow! Wilder (Young Frankenstein) is as always a genius - he is an amazingly funny actor. The lines in this are hilarious - Dahl helped write the screenplay. The songs teach kids lessons. This movie is a classic. Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker! That's one of the lines from the film. One of the most recent versions of this has the making of. All in all, I say: SEE IT & heck, BUY IT
The remake is..different. It is more of a Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas) movie than a remake with all the typical Burton actors. Depp (Alice in Wonderland) does his usual stuff and he is an equal to Wilder. He just isn't what people came to love in Wilder. Think of it as a completely different movie and you may enjoy it. All in all, I say: SKIP IT
