Demolition

Jack Gyllenhaal (The Sisters Brothers) doesn't really notice much in his life. When his wife dies in a car accident and his father-in-law (Chris Cooper of Live by Night) makes some sort of speech about taking things apart to see what makes the work and putting them back to together to fix them - he takes this advice to the extreme. He starts to notice things he never did before. Things that seem broken or he doesn't really understand he uses his tools and takes them apart. He starts to need to destroy things to get to the core of them. Kind of like his relationship with his wife. I like most of the movie - the idea - the writing -the acting. I also liked the idea that he is telling us the story through letters he is writing to a complaint center for a vending machine. What I didn't like was Naomi Watts (Twin Peaks) character - I didn't think she or her son where necessary to the plot - it would have been better if he just kept writing. All in all, I say: SEE IT on HBO or SHO - can't remember which.
