In the 1938 version, an outlaw who has plans to take control of Texas after the Civil War murders a troop of Rangers. Tonto finds one alive and helps him become the Lone Ranger. During the film the Ranger finds himself in a wagon going over a cliff, a spiked pit, a burning cauldron, and a burning barn. Tonto is captured and has to be rescued. The damsel in distress has to be rescued from a wagon loaded with gunpowder. In the end, the bad guy in the black hat is defeated by the Tonto and the Lone Ranger in a white hat. At the end of each chapter of the movie there is a cliffhanger - fade out - then fade in for the next chapter. The movie stars Silver the horse that played Silver starred in over 19 films and got top billing. Chief Thundercloud who played Tonto was in over 81 movies.
Most people remember this Lone Ranger - a tv series that went for five season from 1949 till 1957. Tonto was played by Jay Silverheels from the Six Nations reservation in Ontario, Canada who acted in over 100 films/tv series. Clayton Moore who was in over 80 film/tv series played the Lone Ranger. He was an acrobat and a stuntman. They have over 100 adventures, but basically as IMDB writes, this is the plot: "The lone surviving Texas Ranger who was nursed back to health by the Indian Tonto rides with him, on Silver and Scout, throughout the West, doing good while living off a silver mine which supplies him with income and bullets." This I remember more than the 1938 movie.
Gore Verbinski (Pirate series) directs this remake - same plot - starring Depp (Pirate series), Hammer (Mirror, Mirror), Fichtner (Crossing Lines), Wilkinson (John Adams), Carter (Big Fish), Pepper (True Grit -remake), Dale (World War Z), and Grant (saving Grace). There is a lot more humor in this version. There are still impossible situations for them to escape and damsels in distress to save. All in all, I say: SEE IT
Spoiler: Tonto calls the Lone Ranger Kimosabe and in the film he says that means "Wrong Brother." - It's funny when you see the movie. In the radio and tv version it usually meant faithful friend or trusted scout.
