Fractured (Remaining)

4th book in the apocalypse series - the longest too. It is written from multiple points of view rather than just Lee's this time. Amazon writes, "This is the destiny of those who stand for others.

Their honor will be bought in blood and pain.

The Camp Ryder Hub is broken. Lee is nowhere to be found, and his allies are scattered across the state, each of them learning that their missions will not be as easy as they thought. Inside the walls of Camp Ryder, a silent war is brewing, between those few that still support Lee's vision of rebuilding, and the majority that support Jerry's desire for isolation. But this war will not remain silent for long. And in this savage world, everyone will have to make a choice.

To keep their morals. Or keep their lives."

All in all, I say: READ IT - if you read the first three.

All the Single Ladies

Amazon writes, "A nuanced investigation into the sexual, economic, and emotional lives of women in America, this “singularly triumphant work” (Los Angeles Times) by Rebecca Traister “the most brilliant voice on feminism in the country” (Anne Lamott) is “sure to be vigorously discussed” (Booklist, starred review).

In 2009, the award-winning journalist Rebecca Traister started All the Single Ladies—a book she thought would be a work of contemporary journalism—about the twenty-first century phenomenon of the American single woman. It was the year the proportion of American women who were married dropped below fifty percent; and the median age of first marriages, which had remained between twenty and twenty-two years old for nearly a century (1890–1980), had risen dramatically to twenty-seven.

But over the course of her vast research and more than a hundred interviews with academics and social scientists and prominent single women, Traister discovered a startling truth: the phenomenon of the single woman in America is not a new one. And historically, when women were given options beyond early heterosexual marriage, the results were massive social change—temperance, abolition, secondary education, and more.

Today, only twenty percent of Americans are wed by age twenty-nine, compared to nearly sixty percent in 1960. The Population Reference Bureau calls it a “dramatic reversal.” All the Single Ladies is a remarkable portrait of contemporary American life and how we got here, through the lens of the single American woman. Covering class, race, sexual orientation, and filled with vivid anecdotes from fascinating contemporary and historical figures, All the Single Ladies is destined to be a classic work of social history and journalism. Exhaustively researched, brilliantly balanced, and told with Traister’s signature wit and insight, this book should be shelved alongside Gail Collins’s When Everything Changed."

All in all, I say: SKIP IT - unless you are super into politics or you're a single lady like me!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Snyder (200) directs, so I should have trusted him since I like his other films ok, but I listened to the hype. I didn't see it in theatres so missed the big screen action. I watched it OnDemand. Affleck (Argo) is Batman for this film, Suicide Squad, possibly two more Batman films, and the 2 Justice League films. Cavill (Man from UNCLE) is Superman again for all of the above. Eisenberg () will be Lex. Irons (Dangerous Liaisons) will be Alfred. Gadot (Criminal) will be Wonder Woman. Everyone else is the same from the Superman movie. I liked the action - I thought everyone did a good job. All in all, I say: SEE IT - if you plan on seeing all the others. I am more of a Marvel fan these days, but I first and foremost a DC - Superman fan.

Star Trek: Beyond

Third movie in the reboot. Written partially by Pegg. Elba (Luther) plays the bad guy this time. It's a little slower paced. Good plot, good effects, and good action when there is some. I like the first two better - I'm not saying I hate this one - it's just different. It is more like the original Star Trek films and tv series than the Abrams re-boots. There are plans for a 4th according to all the websites. With Yelchin gone I wonder how they will handle that. All in all, I say: SEE IT - people of Generation X will like the song that kills the bad guys :)

Pretty Little Liars

I put this off for a very long time. 2 of my friends have now gotten addicted, so I am streaming it on Netflix. I skip a few things here and there - you don't miss too much when you miss an episode. A local girl goes missing and ends up dead or is she...someone that could only know the things she knows is texting her friends and making their lives a living hell. The girls are trying to be typical tv teenagers, find their friends killer, and figure out who is texting them. One thing that bothers me - they are 16 and living like adults - so I remind myself they are in their 20s in real life and it's ok. It is a soap opera though. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Cedar Cove

Based on a series of romance novels this was made into a series for Hallmark. It's a soap opera. One of the characters is even played by like 4 different people over the different seasons. MacDowell (Four Wedding and a Funeral) is terrible - she can't act in this. There are a ton of famous Canadian tv actors in this though. Plots is terrible too. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Fundamentals of Caring

Rudd (Anchorman) lost his son in an accident. He decides to become a caregiver to try to heal. He ends up with a job helping a young man. They take a road trip to meet the young man's father - he abandoned him. They pick up a feisty girl along the way and a pregnant woman. They all seem to be running and in need of healing. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Regression

Based on a true story. A young girl lies about being abused by a cult and the cops believe her because of what she says under hypnosis. It's not very good. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Hot Pursuit

It had potential, but they are both playing it way over the top. Witherspoon (Man on the Moon) is the cop and Vergara (Modern Family) is a witness. Del Negro (Teen Wolf) plays a cop. Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) plays a love interest. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Priceless

A French film. A man who does a little of everything at a fancy hotel is mistaken by a beautiful woman as a guest and not an employee. He tries to keep up the charade as much as possible - in the end - it's a happy ending. All in all, I say: SEE IT

I Smile Back

Yuck - I hate crap like this - I mean Silverman does a good job it's just I don't like stuff about depression. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Fairy

A French film where a fairy falls in love with the night manager of a hotel. It's super silly and weird. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Grace and Frankie

Fonda and Tomlin (9 to 5) become best friend and roommates when their husband admit that for 20 years they have been having an affair - they are gay - played by Waterston (Law & Order) and Sheen (West Wing). That part is really depressing and plots are sort of predictable. I like the kids and their stories better. Embry (Hardly Wait), Decker (Battleship), Raphael (Bride Wars), Stults (7th Heaven), and Vaughn (Cloverfield) star as the kids. Hudson (Ghostbusters), Elliot (Tombstone), Gross (Tremors), Place (Getting On), and Nelson (Coach) also have guest appearances. All in all, I say: STREAM IT on Netflix.

My Mother's Future Husband

Thompson's (Mayor Cupcake) daughter sets her up with three men. Only one will be her future husband - will mom be upset when she finds out her daughter planned it all behind her back? The guy who wins her heart has had too much plastic surgery. It's such a bad movie. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Mayor Cupcake

Thompson (Back to the Future) is a cupcake maker who is accidentally voted mayor of her town and she decides to clean it up - the corruption and over spending. Based on a true story - problem - horrible script and horrible editing just ruin the potential. Nelson (Breakfast Club) is the only good thing about this. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

In Lieu of Flowers

Two people meet in a group at a local church for people suffering from grief. He tries to explain to her that he doesn't really belong there. They help each other through the grief, but SPOILER
In the end, he is only grieving from a separation not death and they don't end up together - even though they fall in love. Just horrible - I HATE endings like that - I know realistic, but I didn't want to see a realistic movie! He's so cute too - Pence (Battleship). All in all, I say: SKIP IT

That's What She Said

Oh, it's so bad - I just couldn't even - All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Bloodline

A family who gets involved in murder in a town they sort of run. It was too much drama and not enough mystery for me. I didn't watch past the first show and a half. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Black Mirror

It's kind of like the UK version of Twilight Zone, Tales from the Dark Side and Tales from the Crypt. It was too disturbing - I couldn't watch all of them. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Wentworth

An Australian one hour drama about a woman's prison. The first season and most of the 2nd is good - a little too similar sometimes to Orange is the New Black. The rest of 2 and all of 3 get weird. I like Jeffrey (McLeod's Daughters) . All in all, I say: STREAM IT on Netflix.

Country Remedy

Bancroft (General Hospital) is a big town doctor that makes a mistake and after the death of his wife heads to a country town to be their only physician. Young (Scandal) is also getting over the death of her husband - she;s also the town mayor. All in all, I say: SKIP IT - kind of jumbled and boring.

Random Encounters

Boy and girl bump into one another in a coffee shop and then spend the entire rest of the movies looking for each other, but just missing each other. They end up together - surprise - not. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Baker

Lewis (Billions) is an assassin that messes up one too many times and needs to lay low. He goes to a small town and actual sets himself up as a baker. The town seems to realize who he really is, he falls in love, and in the end an old rival appears played by Coster-Waldau (GoT). All in all, I say: SKIP IT - they act fine its the plot and editing.

The Beautiful Beast

Johnson (Scents & Sensibility) is living in the middle of nowhere since his divorce because he was a doctor with an addiction who accidentally killed a patient. But...he isn't the beast. She's a wealthy, spoiled brat who gets lost and injured. Will he be able to change her and win her heart? All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Pad Na Jou Hart (Road to Your Heart)

A South African romantic comedy. When a wealthy man dies he leaves strange instructions for his son. Will he follow them? Weyers (Gandhi) stars as the father. It's not bad for a cheesy romantic comedy. All in all, I say: STREAM IT on Amazon

A Wedding for Bella

A very low budget film. Main character wants to get married before his grandmother dies. All in all, I say: SKIP IT - just too low budget to be any good.

Red Rock

Two families with deep seeded rivals clash in a small area outside Dublin, Ireland. In the middle, the local police department - and they are no more above the law than the two families. Flood (Crossing Lines) stars. All in all, I say: STREAM IT on Amazon if you would like a 20 minutes Irish soap opera.

No Dawn Without Darkness

3rd book in series - I know I skipped the 2nd one - and guess what?! I didn't miss a dam thing. This book was horrible. After the 1st book it just gets more and more unrealistic and over the top. Amazon writes, "First--a bomb released a deadly flu virus and the entire mall was quarantined.

Next--the medical teams evacuated and the windows were boarded up just before the virus mutated.

Now--the power is out and the mall is thrown into darkness. Shay, Marco, Lexi, Ryan, and Ginger aren't the same people they were two weeks ago. Just like the virus, they've had to change in order to survive. And not all for the better. When no one can see your face, you can be anyone you want to be, and, when the doors finally open, they may not like what they've become.

If you think it's silly to be afraid of the dark, you're wrong.
Very wrong." All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Die Trying (Jack Reacher novel)

2nd book in series. This one is preposterous - the plot is just horrible. A militia?! Some of the scenes read like a teenager with no talent wrote them. It seems like Child writes some chapters and perhaps a ghost writer writes some chapters. Some scenes are too ridiculous. Amazon writes, "When a mysterious woman is kidnapped by a politically motivated fringe group and taken to their compound, Jack Reacher must help her escape with her life—from the inside out..." All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Maximum Ride Forever

9th book in series written by Patterson. It was boring. It was uninteresting. It was not necessary. It's like he didn't take any pride in it possibly didn't even write it himself. Amazon writes, "As Maximum Ride boldly navigates a post-apocalyptic world, she and her broken flock are roaming the earth, searching for answers to what happened. "Seemed pointless after 10 chapters - I'm done - this series is too pointless. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Refugees: The Remaining

3rd book in Remaining series. Amazon writes, He has fought the fight, and run the race.

But the enemies never stop coming, and the race has no finish line.

It has been three months since Captain Lee Harden found the survivors at Camp Ryder. With winter looming, Lee is on the verge of establishing Camp Ryder as a hub of safety and stability in the region. But not everyone agrees with Lee's mission...or his methods. Growing tensions between camp leadership are coming to a head, and as Lee struggles amid the dissension and controversy, new revelations about the infected threaten to destroy everything he has worked for."

All in all, I say; READ IT - if you read the 1st two.

Aftermath: The Remaining

2nd book in Remaining Series. Amazon writes, "To Captain Lee Harden, the mission to rescue his countrymen and rebuild the nation seems like a distant memory.

Wounded and weaponless, he has stumbled upon a group of survivors who may be his last hope. But a tragedy in the group causes a deep rift and forces him into action.

And in the chaos of a world overrun by infected, Lee is pursued by a new threat: someone who will stop at nothing to keep him from his sworn duty."

All in all, I say: READ IT - if you read the 1st.

Discreet

A South African film that should have been a play. Married in real life the actors play a hooker and a first time client. They discuss a wide of range of topics. All in all, I say: SEE IT - if you like the debate - 2 man play format. They made some interested points. It's on Amazon.

Secret Life of Pets

Too long - not enough funny - often over the top for no reason. Comedian Louis CK, Stonestreet (Modern Family), Comedian Kevin Hart, Kemper (The Office), Slate (Parks & Rec), Brooks (Mother), Bell (No Escape), and Carvey (SNL) all do voices. A couple of dogs are separated from their owner and their friends help get them back where they belong. Kind of steals plot from Toy Story in my opinion - unoriginal. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Fey (SNL) and Freeman (Hobbit) work as journalist in Afghanistan. It focuses on Fey and how to handles being a war corespondent and how she gets away from it. It's good that it's a light and comedic telling. Molina (Henchmen) and Thornton (Bad Santa 2) also star. I watched it on Directv OnDemand. All in all, I say: SEE IT - it was ok.
** Do you get the title - WTF - what the.....

Hunted

A group of mercenary types are hired by wealthy clients to make things happen - all sorts of things. George (Heartbeat) is usually the female bait - sleeping with guys to get info. She is set up and after a year in isolation training she gets back into the game to find out who betrayed her. Everyone on the team is a suspect. The other plot - involves a man who is trying to take over water in Pakistan and his son - boring part of story. It all has to do with what she suffered as a child. Too many twists & turns - too many plots to follow. It just was too much - it had potential - good actors - but cancelled by HBO or rather Cinemax after one season. Rayner (Tyrant) also stars. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Please Kill Mr. Know-it-all

A woman writes an advice for a newspaper and calls herself Mr. Know-it-all. A famous person talks about it and now the entire state wants to know & see the columnist. She seeks a face and accidentally uses the face of a hit man. He wants to kill in order to save his identity, but falls in love. It had potential, but the editing and writing were sub-par. I watched it on Amazon. Brown is the only good thing about the film.
All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Scents and Sensibility

Based on Austin's book - two sisters need to get jobs to help buy medical treatment for a younger sister. They fall in love and find a profitable business. All in all, I say: SKIP IT unless you like the cheesy stuff. It's a simple, happy ending film. I watched it on Amazon.

So Pretty & So Dark

2 short films - very short - less than 20 minutes. So Pretty is the first one - a vampire rides on a subway train, has a conversation with a woman who loves the Twilight Series, and kills a pedophile.
So Dark - he allows himself to be captured in order to get to his next victim. All in all, I say: SEE IT - I think it is going to become a regular series. Palko (Walking Dead) - a GA native - does a decent job. All in all, I say: SEE THEM - I did on Amazon.

The Next Steps

A series on Amazon - each episode is only about 5 minutes long. So basically, it's a series of small scenes. Fanelli (who writes for NCIS: LA) is one of the writers, comedian, actors in the skits. (He's from Ohio!)
Doolan is the girlfriend and one of the writers, comedian, actors in the skits. They are so funny - the skits and the people. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Fugitive at 17

A girl and her friend go to a party where they are attached by a serial rapist. The girl is blamed for his friends death and the only person that believes her about the rapist is a female detective. The girl goes on the run to prove her innocence. It is poorly written, acted, and filmed. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

John Winchester's Journal

This is another Supernatural book that really just kind of summarizes the background leading tot he first 2 seasons and the first 2 seasons. It mixes John's feelings, training, and information about creatures she hunted. It was a quick read. All in all, I say: SKIP IT - unless you're a super fan.

Moriarty

This begins after Moriarty and Holmes have gone over the waterfall and everyone believes them to be dead. An American Pinkerton has come to investigate looking for a clue. I read the first two and a half chapter and was bored out of my mind. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

This has opinions, pretend conversations, and stories from, about, and by Kaling (The Office). I like the insights into her career and how she got where she did. It has some funny parts, some ridiculous parts, and you can get her personality immediately. All in all, I say: LISTEN TO IT - she does the audio and that makes it even more funny.
