Campfire Kiss

Danica McKellar (Wonder Years) gets to show off her specialty - math - in this Hallmark movie. She's an 8th grade math teacher trying to connect with her son by going camping. She meets Paul Greene (Sweet Home Carolina) who is trying to connect with his teenager daughter. It's Hallmark, so you know how it ends. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Love Blossoms

Our favorite Canadian actor from Continuum, Victor Webster, is back in this movie for Hallmark. He is a botanist who goers to work for a perfume maker to help her figure out her dead father's last scent to save the company. Hallmark so you know how the plot will go. Callum Blue (Proof) also stars. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Demolition

Jack Gyllenhaal (The Sisters Brothers) doesn't really notice much in his life. When his wife dies in a car accident and his father-in-law (Chris Cooper of Live by Night) makes some sort of speech about taking things apart to see what makes the work and putting them back to together to fix them - he takes this advice to the extreme. He starts to notice things he never did before. Things that seem broken or he doesn't really understand he uses his tools and takes them apart. He starts to need to destroy things to get to the core of them. Kind of like his relationship with his wife. I like most of the movie - the idea - the writing -the acting. I also liked the idea that he is telling us the story through letters he is writing to a complaint center for a vending machine. What I didn't like was Naomi Watts (Twin Peaks) character - I didn't think she or her son where necessary to the plot - it would have been better if he just kept writing. All in all, I say: SEE IT on HBO or SHO - can't remember which.

Jerrod Carmichael: 8

A comedy bit on HBO or SHO - can't remember - what I do remember...I don't like his sense of humour. I found his talking, his facial expressions, and his comedy to be annoying. All in all, I say: SKIP HIM

The 7th Month

The next book in the DD Warren series. She is 7 months pregnant and finds her self on a movie set looking for a killer. It's a novella - super short, easy read. It's a quick way to get the audience aware of her progress with baby - getting it out of the way before her next case so to speak. All in all, I say: READ IT

Lamb

Based on a novel this movie was written, directed and acted by Ross Partridge (Stranger Things). He pays a man: who is getting divorced, who has his father pass away, who lies to his clueless mistress, who gets asked to take a leave from work, and who meets an 11 year old girl and forms a friendship with her. Half the conversations he has with her a creepy - the other half seem normal. Half the time you wonder if he's a pedophile - the other half you think - they are just friends. It made me anxious, so... All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Wiener-Dog

A dog goes from owner to owner for horrible reasons usually. I felt so bad for the dog even though I know this isn't real I couldn't do it. I fast-forwarded and watched that way and I'm glad - the ending sucks ass. I hated this. All in all, I say: NOOOOOOOOOO

The Neon Demon

Elle Fanning (Mary Shelley) is a new young model who is the envy of older models she meets. Jena Malone (Bottom of the World) also star. The movie is confusing and I guess mainly metaphorical. There are some interesting cameos, but the plot is yuck. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Z Virus

No one of note is in it. There have only been two 18 minute episodes and it's about zombies. Not interesting at all. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

Patriot

Another original Amazon - Kiwi Michael Dorman (Killer Elite) is a reluctant CIA agent. His dad gets him to do all these dangerous things - but he has a natural talent for it. How he gets over the difficult stuff - he plays folk guitar. His brother - a Congressman - backs up his brother. They keep it all in the family. It is dark humour and I found Dorman captivating. Michael Chernus (Men in Black 3) and Terry O'Quinn (Lost) also star. All in all, I say: SEE IT

The Collection

An Amazon series that takes place in France at the end of WWII - it's about a family that designs and makes exclusive clothing. I barely made it one entire episode and was BORED. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

All About Eve

Joseph L Mankiewicz (Guys & Dolls) wrote and directed this masterful movie feat - 14 nominations. Bette Davis (Jezebel) is an aging theatre actress who regrettably takes on a a younger woman (ANne Baxter of Hotel) who tries not only to steal her fiance, but also her friends, and job. George Sanders (Rebecca) also stars. All in all, I say: SEE IT - it's a classic.

Love you More

Book 5 in the DD Warren series, but also book 1 in the Teesa Leoni series. I'm in the DD Warren series for now - I want to finish it before I branch to others. Like the previous 4 books in the series - strong females characters and every other chapter takes turns with DD and Tessa telling the story. It's good and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Amazon writes, "Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter?". All in all, I say: READ IT

Aloft

This is a Spainish film starring American Jennifer Connelly (Noah) as a mother who abandoned her oldest son played by Irishman Cillian Murphy (Dunkurk) after the death of her youngest to go out into the wilderness of Alaska to heal the sick. French actress Melanie Laurent (By the Sea) is a journalist and sick woman who journeys with the son to find the mother. Oona Chaplin (Taboo) has a brief moment in the film as the wife of the son. All in all, I say: SKIP IT - it's too painful.

Tears of the Sun

An Antoine Fuqua (Equalizer 2) film that had me cursing because a few years before this came out I had started writing a screenplay that was eerily similar to this plot. Bruce Willis (Death Wish), Cole Hauser (A Good Day to Die Hard), Eamonn Walker (Unbreakable), Johnny Messner (Equalizer), Nick Chinlund (Training Day), and Charles Ingram (Training Day) are an extraction team - elite team who go into Nigeria during a civil war to extract an American by marriage Monica Bellucci (Twin Peaks) who is a doctor. She won't leave without her friends and the guys end up not wanting to let the genocide take place in front of them. It is heart breaking, but an accurate depiction of some of the murders that have taken place on the continent of Africa. I cry every time I see it. It is well written, directed, and filmed. All in all, I say: SEE ON

Logan

Set the furthermost in the future than any of the X-Men series. This is supposed to be the last we see of Wolverine aka Logan. Warning - you will cry - not once, not twice, but possible three times. James Mangold (Zoo) does the story and directing for this film which feels a lot like Mad Max. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart reprise their X-Men roles. Boyd Holbrook (Morgan) and Richard E Grant (GoT) are bad guys trying to create new mutants using DNA from mutants and human mothers. The one to watch is Dafne Keen (Refugees); she is amazing. The stunts and action in this are amazing. The martial arts is perfection. It's gritty and real - not all colorful and fanciful like previous X-Men or Avenger movies - it's more like the Dark Knight series. In my humble opinion it is the best X-Men movie to date. You don't have to have seen all the other movies, but you will get all the references and hidden gems if you have. The metaphor of Logan being Shane in the western Shane is perfection!! You have to see all of Shane to get the full ramifications. His last words, "So this is what it feels like." I think he is referring to both unconditional love as well as peace. I also like this line, "Nature made me a freak. Man made me a weapon. And God made it last too long." There are some choice lines from Shane too. The editing and cinematography are exceptional. All in all, I say: SEE IT - hell BUY IT

10 Cloverfield Lane

John Goodman (Kong) is a crazy survivalist. He created an underground bunker just when aliens have decided to invade. This is kind of a sequel from JJ Abrams production company. He traps Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) and (Newsroom) with him. They can't decide which is more dangerous staying with him or going out. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Just Before I Go

Directed by Courtney Cox (Scream) starring Seann William Scott (American Pie) as a man who goes back to his home town to check off a bucket list before he kills himself. Olivia Thirlby (Goliath), Garret Dillahunt (The Guest Book), Kate Walsh (Dying: 101), Rob Riggle (Modern Family), Connie Stevens (The Love Boat), David Arquette (Scream), and Kyle Gallner (Outsiders). It has a balance of humour and seriousness. All in all, I say: SEE IT on Starz

Kong: Skull Island

Tom Hiddleston (Avengers) does a decent job - he's subtle, fit, and ... I lost my train of thought. Samuel L Jackson (Avengers) has his usual monologue and he was made for this part. Brie Larson (Room) also does a good job. The subtle acting making this not so over the top. John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane) and John C Reilly (Holmes and Watson) also star. It takes place in 1973 on an isolated island when Kong not yet an adult has lost his parents and is fighting off a threat. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Righteous Kill

Deniro and Pacino made this 2008 movie about a cop who is a serial killer. It has strange dialogue and pacing. Carla Gugino (Nashville), 50 Cent, John Leguizamo (John Wick 2), and Donnie Walhberg (Blue Blood) also stars. All in all, I say: SKIP IT

The Arrangement

Lexa Doig (Arrow) and her husband (Michael Vartan from Alias) run a religious cult and run the life of their biggest client - a huge movie star. It kind of has a Tom and Katie Scientology feel to it. Josh Henderson (Dallas) is the star and Christine Evangelista (TWD) is the soon to be wife. It's going to be a new soap opera drama for E! I'm going to see where it's going. All in all, I say: TRY IT

Making History

It's a half hour comedy about time travel. Sometimes the humor just goes too far. I'm going to give it a couple more episodes. The main character messes up the American Revolution because he starts courting Paul Revere's daughter. Leighton Meester (By the Gun) and Adam Polly (Happy Endings) star. All in all, I say: TRY IT

The Missing

A tv series on Starz. Season one IMDb writes, "When Tony and Emily Hughes travel to France with their 5-year-old son Oliver, their family holiday turns into a nightmare when Oliver disappears from a large celebrating crowd in Northern France.". Season two has just started. IMDb writes, "When a young woman (who was abducted as a child) returns to her hometown, her family is thrown into turmoil. Her name is Alice Webster. Two years later, detective Julien Baptiste resumes the search for another missing girl." An amazing cast. All in all, I say: SEE IT

The Legend of Tarazan

Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) goes back to the African continent to get proof that the King of Belgium and his emissaries are using salve labor he ends up having to save his wife (Margot Robbie from Suicide Squad) from them - the bad guys. Samuel L. Jackson (Captain Marvel) and Christoph Waltz (Tulip Fever) also stars. It was ok - some of the CGI was off. It's sad when animals are involved. All in all, I say: SEE IT free on tv when it's released.

Take Care

Leslie Bibb (American Housewife) took care of her boyfriend (Thomas Sadoski from Life in Pieces) when he had cancer. The second he is better he drops her like a hot potato. Two years later she's in a car accident and needs someone to take care of her. She decides he should do it. They both discover a lot about themselves and each other. It's well done and well written. All in all, I say: SEE IT

Keeping up with the Joneses

Zach Galifianakis (A Wrinkle in Time) and Isla Fisher (Sofia the First) are a suburban couple in Atlanta. He works HR for a company where everything they do is a secret. She works at home as a designer. When new neighbors move in they are quick to figure out they don't belong. Jon Hamm (High Wire Act) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) are a  CIA couple who go undercover to find out an evil plan. Patton Oswalt (The Circle) plays the bad guy. It has some funny moments and some over the top moments. It was cute. All in all, I say: SEE IT once it's on TV for free.

Taken

Clive Standen (Vikings) takes the role of Brian from Taken the movie. It's how he got into the business. He does an ok job so far. I'm only 2 episodes in, so it's still hard to get a feel. I'm going to keep watching. He 's going to spend the season savings people for a secret agency and trying to kill the guy that killed his sister. All in all, I say: TRY IT

O'Shucks

A seafood restaurant in Loganville off 78. I had boiled shrimp and fries. The fries were not impressive - the seafood was ok. It seemed fresh and the service was nice. All in all, I say: TRY IT once at least.

Harley Quinn Vol 1

She finds a home as a landlord in the city, a place on a roller hockey team, and fights off people trying to kill her, It was super boring and the writing was sub-par. All in all, I say: SKIP IT
